Misunderstanding of Indonesian Economic
A
nation clearly stand to protect and safeguard the people who belongs to him,
while reciprocally, the people which belong to the nation, there to defend the country.
But one thing that cannot be forgotten out of the existence of a nation is how
to keep the people of the country remains in a state of sufficient or even
prosperous. Prosperity of the people of a country determines whether the country
through the country's leaders, are succeed in running the government. In 2008,
a shock occurs to the international economy that threatens even the European
countries and America which are famous for their economic stability. In Asia,
many countries also threatened by the crisis. Fortunately at that time,
Indonesia managed to be optimistic facing the global fear, even more shine. This
is shown in the strengthening of the Indonesian currency to dollar and also good
economic growth. In the eyes of international investors, Asian countries
currently providing security in investment, in particular Indonesia.
Unfortunately, still, very often heard any opinion expressed in terms of the
failure of the Indonesian economy instead of the Indonesian people.
Instability, social inequality, poverty is still haunting even this great
nation, that is the idea of those people. The negative opinions which are often
heard among the laity is often stand as the foundation for Indonesian citizens
to constantly assume that the Indonesian economy is always in an unstable
state.
First, a fact that should be known by the
general public is that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Indonesia currently
ranks 18th on the order of 20 countries that have the largest GDP in the world.
There are only 5 Asian countries into the list issued by the World Bank. Fifth
Asian countries are Japan (second), China (third), India (eleventh), and South
Korea (fifteenth). Indonesia's GDP reached U.S. $ 700 billion, with a per
capita income of U.S. $ 3,000 per year to get Indonesia 15th in the countries
with the largest per capita income, in the world. In more, Indonesia’s stock
price index is also the best record for Asia Pacific in 2010.
Second, economic growth in Indonesia
deserves an award. All parties are working hard on Indonesia's economic growth
in recent years. Indonesia Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa
acknowledged that Indonesia's economy is currently very good. Indonesia's
economy is very tempting the foreign investors to invest in this country. This
is obviously going to be the cornerstone of the nation's progress. Governor of
Bank Indonesia (BI), Darma Nasution said that being an increase in various
sectors of the Indonesian economy. Strong household consumption, increasing the
external sectors, and increased investment is the growth factor.
"We just want to have economic
growth as your country. I mean, about 6% growth in the last few years is nice.
The challenge is how you maintain it." - Scot Marciel, the U.S. ambassador
for Indonesia. The phrase above is an expression of Scot Marciel in an
interview before leaving Indonesia after three years in his charge. This
expression shows how good is Indonesia’s economic growth, which actually know, how
we, the people of Indonesia will maintain and leveling the prosperity
throughout the whole area.
On the other hand, the response which
states that Indonesia's economy is still very unstable are not unfounded. The
responses is emerged from the community because they witnessed very real
condition of gapping in the society. Still the presence of slums, even in big
cities like Jakarta, causing doubts about the stability of the economy. An
economist,
who is Dean
of an
university in the West Java state that up to 6% economic growth in 2011 would
be meaningless if it only felt by the upper class only. A growth will bring
prosperity to the community as a whole, but what is happening in Indonesia is a
condition that is far from equitable prosperity itself.
In
conclusion, it is better to do something for
Indonesia’s economy
today without too much criticizing. Indonesia is improving in many ways, particularly in terms of the
economy. But, of course, will never completely suddenly turned into a superpower nation like most
Europeans and Americans. Everything requires a process. Indonesia's economy
deserves appreciation, as it can rise quickly from the crash of 1998 in which
the Indonesian economy crashed result
a
fatal impact. It is good as citizens of this great country, instead of assuming
for any shortcomings that probably
still
exist, but to
try and work hard to advance this nation better than what it is today. Maintain economic performance rather than
always assume that we are not always good. Trying to enhance
instead of always blaming the government. Always innovate, compete, so that
Indonesia can finally get back to the proper position, as a great and strong
giants in finance and the economy. Be sure you are part of it.
